Olympia 2018: Russian bobsledder allegedly tested positively

The suspended National Olympic Committee of Russia is facing another doping case at the Olympic Games in Pyeongchang.

According to a report in the Russian newspaper Sport Express, bobsleigh driver Nadezha Sergeyeva (30) is said to have been tested positively.

Sport Express reports that Alexander Subkov, president of the Russian Bobsleigh and Sled Federation, has confirmed a positive test. The former bobsleigh driver Subkow, who had been deprived of his two Olympic victories in Sochi in 2014 due to doping and has been banned from the Olympics for life, did not provide any information on the substance found.

The International Olympic Committee did not wish to comment on SID’s request. The ad hoc chamber of the International Sports Court CAS in Pyeongchang was not accessible at first.

Sergeyeva would be the second doping case for the “Olympic athletes from Russia” in Pyeongchang after that of curler Alexander Kruschelnitsky. Sergeyeva and Anastasia Kocherschowa (30) finished twelfth in the two-man competition together with Anastasia Kocherschowa.

On Saturday, the executive of the International Olympic Committee will decide whether to lift the suspension of the ROC and allow Russia to start under its own flag at the closing ceremony.
