NBA: Schröder rebelled against Dubs – Curry injured
Dennis Schröder has shown one of his best games this season in the Atlanta Hawks’ duel against the Golden State Warriors.
His 27 points are not enough against the master in the end.
After the first half, Atlanta almost gave the impression that the game was one of the best against one of the worst teams this season. The Warriors took a 12-point lead into their traditionally strongest third quarter. And Stephen Curry looked almost unbeatable: in the last seven minutes of the first half alone, the double MVP scored 15 points (28 in total).
But things didn’t go on like this for the Dubs, not least because Curry had already hurt his ankle in the first half and was then completely pulled out of circulation in the middle of the third quarter. It was the ankle on the right foot that Curry had already missed a few weeks of this season, but according to the Warriors the prognosis is not so bad, it was rather a precautionary measure.
On the court, however, the tide turned after that. The Hawks actually marched back and won the third quarter with 34:28. Especially Kent Bazemore (29 points) and Dennis Schröder (27,9 assists) showed strong actions again and again. A Schröder trio at the beginning of the fourth quarter then shortened to 84:90, and the Hawks continued to work steadily on their comeback.
It was also Schröder who made the Warriors sweat again with free throws 19 seconds before the end and reduced them to 109:111. Afterwards, the otherwise strong Kevin Durant (28 points) on the free-throw line showed even more nerves and hit only one of two, but Andre Iguodala snatched the ball from Bazemore on the opposite side, before Andre Iguodala could shorten or equalize again. So the Dubs ended up taking the victory.
The Dubs have thus remained unbeaten since the All-Star Break. Curry will continue to be examined on Saturday, but as initial forecasts were not as tragic as mentioned above. In the action in question, Curry had landed unhappily on the foot of his teammate Zaza Pachulia.
