NBA: J.R.
J.R. On Saturday, for the first time since his suspension by the Cleveland Cavaliers, Smith made a public statement about the incident that caused it: The reactions to his “soup-litter” had even amused him to some extent.
“Some of the memes were really funny,”said Smith,”I understand that anything I do will somehow be made a meme. This is simply part of our everyday life at this time. If this had happened 15 years ago, no one would have even heard of it. But this is just part of the game.”
Smith had been suspended for the game of the Cavs against the 76ers on Thursday because, according to ESPN, he had thrown a bowl of soup at Assistant Coach Damon Jones. Smith said that the Swingman did not want to say anything about the incident itself on Saturday that he could not remember what kind of soup it was, for example.
“We left that behind us as a team and whether I should have been suspended for it is not my decision, not even my job. I’m here to play basketball,”said Smith. When asked what caused his aggressive reaction, Smith said:”I have an idea what I want to say, but I’m not going to say that, so I’ll leave it at that.”
LeBron James said similarly covered up on Saturday,”It has nothing to do with me,”said James,”My mama taught me a long time ago how to take care of my own things. Stay out of the affairs of grown-up people who don’t concern you. That’s what I did.”
Smith, 32, is currently in his third full season with the Cavs. In 59 outreaches, the veteran has so far scored 8.3 points and 39.2 percent of the field.
