Cycling: Tirreno-Adriatico: Caruso takes over the blue jersey

Damiano Caruso, the Italian professional cyclist Damiano Caruso has regained the overall lead in the stage race Tirreno-Adriatico. The 30-year-old from the BMC Racing Team leads after the fourth stage over 219 km from Foligno up to the 1345 m high mountain arrival in Sarnano Sassotetto with a second lead over the Polish rider Michal Kwiatkowski from Team Sky.

The stage victory went to the Spanish Movistar newcomer Mikel Landa, who is on third place in the overall standings with a gap of 20 seconds to Caruso.

The Briton Geraint Thomas (Sky) dropped back to fifth place (+26 seconds) due to a defect in the final climb. After two flat stages on Sunday (Castelraimondo-Filottrano) and Monday (Numana-Fano) the decision of the stage race will most likely be made in the final 10 km individual time trial in San Benedetto del Tronto.
