Golf: Reed defies furious Spieth – Kaymer and Langer solid

Martin Kaymer and Bernhard Langer finished the US Masters in Augusta with solid rounds. At the front Patrick Reed and Jordan Spieth fought a head-to-head race, the American prevailed in the end.

Kaymer came into the clubhouse on Magnolia Lane on the par 72 course with a 73 and needed a total of 294 strokes (74+73+74+73).

His compatriot Langer needed one stroke less on the last day. Overall, he finished the tournament with 291 strokes (74+74+71+72). Both should finish the Masters with a 40th place.

Tiger Woods raised his game and played a round of 69. He needed a total of 289 strokes. His compatriot Charley Hoffman managed a hole-in-one on the 16th hole of the last round.

At the top was the incomprehensibly playing American Reed, who was able to put on the green jacket for the first time in his career at the age of 27. He won with 273 strokes (69+66+67+71) just ahead of his compatriot Rickie Fowler (274/70+72+72+65+67). Jordan Spieth played a furious final round, but failed with a bogey on the last hole and had to content himself with a total of 275 strokes (66+74+71+64) with third place.
