NFL: Ex-Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel to play in the CFL
Former Cleveland Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel has announced that he will be playing football in Canada’s CFL. Johnny “Football” is said to have signed a contract with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.
According to NFL network insider Ian Rapoport, Manziel is said to have signed a two-year contract with Tiger-Cats. The team held exclusive rights to the 25-year-old.
“Finally playing football again. That’s what matters,” Manziel explained in a video contribution to Barstool Sports. “I missed this. It’s a big day for me. Finally I have a team again and I can do what makes me happy.”
Johnny “Football” has not played professional football since his release from the Browns in 2015. Manziel was released by the team after a domestic violence lawsuit and later went to a rehab clinic to treat his drug problems.
The former first-round pick has been trying to get his career back on track for six months. He also participated in several workouts before NFL Scouts and played two games in the Spring League. The season of Tiger-Cats starts on June 16th.
