MLB: Shock! Superstar breaks his wrist
Shock for the New York Yankees: Superstar Aaron Judge has contracted a fracture in his right wrist and will be out for weeks.
Judge was hit in the first inning of the home game against the Kansas City Royals (7-2 New York) on Thursday by a pitch from Jakob Junis on his right wrist. After X-rays at Yankee Stadium were inconclusive, the team immediately sent him to the hospital.
A nuclear spin and a computer tomography resulted in a blast fracture. The doctors advised against an operation, but the Yankees announced that the Right Fielder could return to a game situation in three weeks at the earliest.
Judge remained in the game as designated hitter and created an infield single in the third inning before he was replaced.
In the same game, starter Sonny Gray (5 IP, 3 H, 2 BB, 5 SO) had to leave early. He was hit by a comebacker of Alex Gordon in the fifth inning when he tried to stop the ball with his bare hand. He hurt his thumb but finished the inning. According to manager Aaron Boone, however, he will be able to complete his next start on schedule.
