NBA: Durant: Green dispute no factor in Free Agency

The dispute between Kevin Durant and Draymond Green at the Golden State Warriors last week caused a furious stir. For the Finals-MVP, however, the dispute will not play a role in his upcoming Free Agency.

This is what Durant said at Yahoo! Sports: “No, it won’t be a factor. At the end of the day, I’m just a basketball player who tries to play in a great environment and maintain his skills every day. And I want to play on a level where as soon as the game starts, I feel completely comfortable in my environment and can just be myself.”

Durant has a player option for the 19/20 season, but he is unlikely to pull it. The Warriors naturally want to keep the two-time champion, and there was a fear that the Green fight might drive him away from Golden State. But Durant didn’t want to know.

“I never really felt it was a problem because I know Dray and he’s always talking some crazy shit,” Durant says. “I was angry, but I know I can’t stay long on something like this. There’s a lot of coming from out there. I think we’ve all handled it well and we just want to look ahead.”

The Warriors had some difficulties recently for their proportions, of the last seven games the champion lost five. Durant now expressed the hope that the whole matter with Green might even give the team a boost.

“When you experience this in a personal relationship and put everything on the table, you get a new understanding of each other,” Durant says. “I believe we will all reach this point at some point. Not just me and Draymond. You get more and more used to each other over time.”

Durant has been playing for the Warriors since 2016. In the last two years, the 30-year-old has won both the championship and the final MVP. In the current season he has scored 27.2 points, 7.2 rebounds and 6.1 assists on average.
