MLB: Atlanta: Big Name and Primitive Rock in Approach

The Atlanta Braves apparently secured the services of Josh Donaldson. Third baseman gets a one-year contract, according to media reports. The Braves also bring back an old acquaintance.

Donaldson missed much of the previous season injured, then in August was traded from the Toronto Blue Jays to the Cleveland Indians and played with them in the playoffs. In 52 games, the former MVP of the American League beat .246 with a .801 OPS.

Too short a time for a long-term contract, as it now appears. Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic therefore reports that Donaldson will receive a $23 million one-year deal. Only a medical check stands in the way of the pact.

In addition, the Braves Catcher are bringing back Brian McCann. The seven-time All-Star grew up on the outskirts of Atlanta and played for the Braves from 2005 to 2013 before joining the New York Yankees as a Free Agent in 2014.

After two years with the Houston Astros, with whom he won the World Series in 2017, the 34-year-old is now back home. According to Rosenthal, McCann will also receive a one-year contract. His salary: $1.2 million.
