NBA: Pop criticizes modern NBA: “Boring”

Gregg Popovich has played many different styles with the San Antonio Spurs during his 20 years of regency and has often been successful. The 69-year-old, however, criticized the development of basketball and described today’s game as boring.

“The game under the basket is broken,” Popovich said to Sam Smith from nba.com. “We now have players who are athletic, penetrate and play the kick pass. We have players who can switch and we have big guys who can play with the small players,” Pop summarized today’s NBA.

A thorn in the side for Popovich is still the three-point throw. “He gets so much attention because the analytics confirm it. Now, after the game, everyone in the boxing score looks at the threes. If you make threesomes and not the others, you win. I hate that, always have. I hated that threesome 20 years ago.”

The three of us was also one of the big problems of the Spurs this season, the potent shooters are missing. San Antonio have the fourth best quota, but at the same time take the second least attempts from the distance.

Popovich joked that there will be a four or five point throw soon and that the fans will love it. For Pop, however, this has nothing to do with basketball. “It’s just not pretty anymore, it’s really boring.”
