Boxing: Mega fight: Fury almost 20 kilos heavier than Wilder

Tyson Fury will have significant weight advantages in the WBC fight against WBC Champion Deontay Wilder on Sunday night (Sun., 3am live on DAZN). The Englishman weighed almost 20 kilograms more than Wilder at the official weighing on Friday in Los Angeles.

Before the eyes of earlier boxing greats such as Tyson conqueror Buster Douglas, Lennox Lewis or Evander Holyfield, Fury weighed exactly 256.5 pounds, just over 116 kg. The 30-year-old was slightly lighter than his last fight in August against Francesco Pianeta (258 pounds).

Fury had weighed 247 pounds, about 112 kilos, in his sensational victory over Vladimir Klitschko in the 2015 World Cup fight. Since he subsequently laid down his belts without a fight, he is still unbeaten (27-0) and thus the ruler champion.

So Fury (2,05 meters) within ring will be only minimum bigger than Wilder (2,01 meters), but much heavier. The American, like Fury still unbeaten in his professional career, weighed in at 212.5 pounds, a mere 96.4 kilos.

But that’s nothing unusual for the knockout artist (39 K.o.s in 40 fights). In his last fight in March of this year, he weighed a pound and a half more.

“Talking is easy, tomorrow it will be decided,” said the wilder, who came on stage with an extravagant face mask after being provoked several times by puppet Fury. “Tomorrow I can let out everything that’s accumulated in me.”

It will definitely be his most important fight, but not his hardest, Wilder says: “I’ve boxed much harder opponents already. It’ll just be another step for me. I’ll knock him out.”

The battle between Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder will be broadcast on December 2 by the DAZN streaming portal. In Germany the fight starts around 3 o’clock in the morning MEZ. Click here for the free trial month.
