NBA: Kerr: “One of my worst performances”
Stephen Curry was also defeated by the Golden State Warriors in Detroit. Especially coach Steve Kerr took the responsibility and explained after the game that his coaching was not good.
“I didn’t like our offense today. I have to do better work there,” Kerr explained after the game in a conversation with the media and even went one step further: “To be honest, one of my worst performances as a coach was shown.
Due to Draymond Green’s retirement the Warriors lacked a Big after Kevon Looney and Damian Jones had a hard time against Blake Griffin and Andre Drummond. The youngsters already received two fouls in the first quarter.
“The early foul problems have thrown our rotations a little mixed up,” Kerr admitted. “We had some lineups on the field that we didn’t want to have. These weren’t effective then, so it’s my fault. I need to be better than in the first two months of the season. We need better throws, more spacing, more flow.”
Especially from a distance, only little came together for the Warriors. Overall, the champion sunk only 23 percent of his threes (6/26 3P), while Klay Thompson and Kevin Durant only hit 2/12 of the perimeter together. “Sometimes our spacing isn’t ideal,” Durant found out. “The leaders of this team must now settle this. I don’t think the coach can correct that, but rather we have to intervene as leaders.
The Warriors now stand at 15-9 after their second defeat in a row, which means fourth place in the Western Conference. The gap to the front runner Los Angeles Clippers is just 1.5 games.
