The Los Angeles Clippers sent Blake Griffin to the Detroit Pistons and in return acquired Tobias Harris and Avery Bradley. At first glance, it looks like the pistons clearly got the best player in the deal. But did they give too much for that? What’s going on with the Clippers? SPOX answers the most important questions.
For months there were rumors that the Clippers Center would trade DeAndre Jordan and its expiring contract. But now the other star of the team has been caught. Griffin didn’t sign a maximum contract for $172 million for five years until the summer and was regarded as the face of a franchise that was still searching.
This didn’t stop the Clippers from sending out the Power Forward only half a year later, although owner Steve Ballmer thanked the owner again for the services of the number 32. He also praised Griffin for helping to turn Clippers back into a respectable franchise. In the package with Griffin, Center Willie Reed and wing player Brice Johnson also have to look for accommodation in the Motor City.
In return, Detroit sends defensive specialist Avery Bradley, Wing Tobias Harris and Center-Hüne Boban Marjanovic to the City of Angels. There is also a first and second round pick for the Clippers. When the clippers get their first round pick is also related to the performance of the pistons in the next few years.
The First Rounder is protected from 2018 to 2020 from 1st to 4th place. So if Detroit should always land in the lottery in the next three years, the pistons will keep the pick. It is not until 2021 that the right to vote would go to Los Angeles unprotected. The second round goes to the clippers without any protection.
