Biathlete Julian Eberhard has just missed the first Austrian medal at the Olympic Games in Pyeongchang. On Sunday, the Salzburg rider finished fourth in the sprint over 10 kilometres with a penalty lap. The winner of the Olympic dress rehearsal last year, who had suffered a broken pole on the way, was only 0.7 seconds short on bronze.

Gold went to Arnd Peiffer, the clear German won the gold medal ahead of Czech surprise Michal Krcmar (+ 4.4 sec. /0 penalty rounds) and South Tyrolean Dominik Windisch (7.7/1). The top favourites Martin Fourcade (FRA/3 penalty rounds) and Johannes Thingnes Bö (NOR/4) fought their way out of the medal race with too many shooting mistakes.
