NFL: Alex Smith “thrilled” about Trade after changing Redskins

The Washington Redskins caused Alex Smith’s first big personal surprise this year with the Trade for Alex Smith. Smith will replace Kirk Cousins in the capital city – and was now openly impressed by the unexpected change.

“I am thrilled,”said Smith to ESPN on the fringes of the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am Golf tournament,”I am extremely looking forward to this opportunity. It’s a new challenge and I can’t wait to get started. I know we’ll have to wait until the start of the league year – but I can’t say how much I’m looking forward to it.”

Smiths Trade can only be made official in mid-March, when the new league year begins. But then the 33-year-old in Washington will receive a new four-year contract for up to 94 million dollars, of which 71 million will be guaranteed. The Redskins paid for the trade a third round pick and Cornerback Kendall Fuller.

The Chiefs decided after last season to hand over the quarterback baton to Patrick Mahomes and use Smith’s good season in the trade. Smith had already lost his job in San Francisco to a young quarterback, Colin Kaepernick. In Washington, at least for the time being, this fate does not threaten him.
