Olympia 2018: Ice hockey: From the birch trees to the prelude in the goal

Danny from the birch trees of champion Red Bull Munich will score against Finland at the opening game of the German national ice hockey team at the Olympic Games in Pyeongchang on Thursday (12.10 a. m. OZ/4.10 CET).

This was announced by national coach Marco Sturm after the final training session on Wednesday morning.

“He makes a very good impression, he brings peace and quiet,”said the coach, explaining his decision:”Looking back at the past few years, he has made good progress:” From the Birken, with Munich in the last two years champion in the German Ice Hockey League (DEL), had already stood between the posts at the dress rehearsal in Switzerland (2:1 after extra time).

Timo Pielmeier from Ingolstadt will be the second goalkeeper at the preliminaries. The third goalie, Dennis Endras from Mannheim, will thus have only one seat in the stands.

Storm left open which two field players will not go to the ice on Thursday. Only 20 field players and two goalkeepers from the 25-man squad may be used in each game.
