Olympia 2018: South Korea: 2.1 million euros for North Korea’s appearance

South Korea has had the symbolic appearance of its brother state North Korea at the Olympic Winter Games in Pyeongchang cost a lot.

Seoul has spent around 2.1 million euros on accommodation, transport, food and other services.

The North Korea, which is still officially hostile to the South, is in Pyeongchang with 229 cheerleaders, a demonstration team for Taekwondo and around 140 artists on site. The costs for the 22 athletes from the north starting in Pyeongchang will be covered by the International Olympic Committee.

According to official sources, Seoul is very careful to ensure that North Korea’s participation in the Olympics does not violate the many sanctions imposed on Pyongyang,”We are very careful to comply with the IOC’s rules, international standards and sanctions against North Korea,”said Cho Myoung Gyon, South Korea’s Secretary of Association.

U. S. Vice President Mike Pence had recently stated that he would not allow North Korean propaganda to capture the message and images of the Olympic Games. The high-ranking delegation from North Korea to the Pyeongchang Games includes Kim Yo Jong, sister of ruler Kim Yong Un.
