Laura Dahlmeier is one of the stars at the Olympic Winter Games in Pyeongchang. The German biathlete has already won three medals and more could follow. With her long list of successes, the 24-year-old is on the hunt for Magdalena Neuner, the most successful German biathlete of all time. SPOX gives you an overview of Dahlmeier’s successes and outstanding decisions at the Olympic Games.
The 18th. March 2012 was a sad day for the German biathlon sport. It was the day Magdalena Neuner competed in the last World Cup race of her career and ended her unparalleled career. The Bavarian athlete from Upper Bavaria not only lost a successful athlete, but also a real figurehead of the sport.
But only eleven months later, on 15. In February 2013, a new, aspiring biathlete made her debut in the World Cup: Laura Dahlmeier. Like Neuner, Dahlmeier comes from Garmisch-Partenkirchen and like Neuner, Dahlmeier was soon to dominate sporting events.
The athlete, who is only 1.62 metres tall, clinched her first World Cup victory around two years after her debut. In Nove Mesto na Morave (Czech Republic), Dahlmeier took first place in the sprint.
This was followed by 30 further World Cup victories, which brought her the “crystal ball” and lifted her to first place in the 2016/17 overall World Cup. For the first time since Neuner 2012, a German biathlete won the World Cup.
Another, if not the highlight of her career was the 2017 World Championship in Hochfilzen. Dahlmeier won gold in pursuit, singles, mass start, mixed relay and relay. The curly hair also won a silver medal in the sprint.
Dahlmeier proved that she can call on her full performance potential when it matters. This is a fact which she now underlines at the Olympic Winter Games in Pyeongchang.
Exact figures on Dahlmeier’s assets are not known. The only thing is clear: with her previous Olympic medals, she has collected €50,000 in rewards alone. In addition, she has earned her merits in the World Cup and her salary as a customs officer. In an interview with ISPO. com, Dahlmeier said that she earned “surely good money” with biathlon.
