Those who had refrained from torturing themselves out of bed for the Olympic women’s Super-G missed out on sports history. With sensational winner Ester Ledecka, a young Czech woman won gold, whose Wikipedia article shows her as a snowboarder on the early Saturday afternoon of Korean time.
However, this is likely to change soon after the coup at the Alpine Centre in Jeongseon. The plans of the surprised 22-year-olds have also changed.
“I don’t want to be rude to you, but I’d rather snowboard now than sit here. I should have completed three training runs already,”said the neo-Olympic champion, while she answered the questions of the assembled press with her ski goggles on,”I didn’t expect to sit here after the race. That’s why I didn’t apply make-up,”explained Ledecka, who could continue to write her unbelievable fairy tale next Saturday. In the parallel giant slalom of the female snowboarders, the world champion is the favourite.
“Every time I go to a race, I want to give my best and win – but today it was surprising for me too, of course,”admitted Ledecka. This was to be seen after the deceleration in the finish line, when she remained motionless and unbelieving for seconds.
“I don’t know, it’s hard to explain, but at first I thought the ad had a bug,”she admitted,”I’ve been waiting for time to jump over and add a few seconds. But the crowd cheered and I thought, okay, that’s really weird.”
Anna Veith, who had already been snatched from gold, needed something to realize what had just happened:”Of course, I thought it would be gold,” said the long time in the lead and finally only beaten by a hundredth of a Salzburg woman from Salzburg,”That someone with a starting number above 20 hadn’t won this season, we didn’t have it yet,” she continued, saying:”Because E
In a first reaction I asked myself:’ Is it possible?’ But silver is like gold to me. After my injuries, every medal is incredible,”Veith said happily.
Ester Ledecka’s success, however, remains a small mystery for the time being, because as the young lady from Prague herself notes, the overlaps between snowboarding and skiing are straightforward:”Both go down the mountain!
