Olympia 2018: Skicross: No medal for Austria, fortune teller falls down

The Canadian Brady Leman won the gold medal in the men’s ski cross on Wednesday at the Olympic Winter Games in Pyeongchang. In a competition marked by falls, Leman prevailed over the Swiss Marc Bischofberger. The Russian Sergei Ridzik won the bronze medal in spite of a fall in the final. For 31-year-old Leman, it is the first medal at a major event.

The Austrians played no role in the decision. Adam Kappacher, Thomas Zangerl and Robert Winkler were eliminated in the quarter-finals. Christoph Wahrstötter fell in the round of sixteen and suffered a concussion after the first ÖSV statements. Winkler crashed in the quarter-finals and, according to initial information, suffered a hip contusion. The Frenchman Terence Tchiknavorian and the Canadian Christopher Delbosco also fell heavily.

Christoph Wahrstötter is on his way to the hospital in Wonju, where snowboarder Markus Schairer had already been treated after his cervical vertebra fracture. The athlete is accompanied by Sabine Wittner, the sports director of Ski Cross in the ÖSV.
