Olympia 2018: Snowboard: Austrian Gasser wins first Big-Air-Gold

Austria’s Anna Gasser won the first Olympic gold medal at the Pyeongchang Winter Games in the snowboarders’ Big Air competition.

The world champion and X-Games winner won the final with 185.00 points, ahead of Slopestyle Olympic champion Jamie Anderson (USA/177.25) and New Zealander Zoi Sadowski Synnott (157.50). German athletes did not compete in the final.

Anderson, who had already won the slopestyle gold medal in Sochi in 2014, could have been the most successful snowboarder at winter games with her third Olympic victory with her compatriot Shaun White.

Due to the unfavorable weather forecast, the Big Air final was brought forward from Saturday to Thursday. Anderson had been ahead for a long time, but Gasser showed the best performance of the day with 96.00 points in the last jump and pushed himself forward.

On Saturday (10.00 o’ clock OZ/2.00 o’ clock CET) the men’s decision is on the agenda.
