The German national ice hockey team lost the final of Pyeongchang against the Olympic athletes from Russia, but made history by winning the silver medal.
Patrick Reimer is pleased with the success of the last few days in an initial reaction, while Danny from the birch trees is thinking of a filming of the ice hockey miracle. Marco Sturm hopes for a boom in Germany. The voices for the Olympic final:
Marco Sturm (federal hockey coach)?
… about the final:”There is such a game only once in a lifetime. These guys made it this far. Unfortunately, they didn’t get the gold. I hope we’ll go back to Olympia with these boys.”
… We didn’t expect to reach the finals here. I told you, we usually sit at home and watch it on TV. But we’re here! Big praise to the boys. We’re super happy.”
… about the future DEB squad:”We’ve been talking to some guys for quite some time. In the end, it’s up to the players to decide, and nothing has been decided yet. Maybe the squad as it was here won’t be standing on the ice in this constellation at the next tournaments.”
… about a possible ice hockey boom in Germany:”I hope it can trigger a lot of things. We have not only grown together as a team, but I believe that the whole of Germany has grown together. We’ll never forget it. In the future, we ourselves may be going into the tournaments with better self-confidence. But you have to stay on the carpet.”
Patrick Reimer (striker):”There is no reason not to be proud. Even if it hurts now, of course. It always takes a little luck. But who would have thought we’d get this far? Hey, silver!”
Moritz Müller (Defender):”We were Olympic champion for three minutes. That’s very bitter. But, of course, we’re also incredibly proud.”
Yannic Seidenberg (striker):”When the gate fell, a world broke down in us for a moment.”
Danny aus den Birken (Torwart):”Maybe Hollywood would like to film this. Then I just hope Brad Pitt doesn’t play me.”
Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier to the DEB team:”You have totally new enthusiasm for ice hockey in Germany.
