MLB: Twins sign First Baseman Logan Morrison for Twins

Max Kepler gets a new team mate! The Minnesota Twins have signed a one-year contract with First Baseman Logan Morrison for the 2018 season. Morrison last played for the Tampa Bay Rays.

Morrison will make $5.5 million this season. In addition, his contract includes an option for the 2019 season of $8 million.

The option will take effect as soon as Morrison reaches 600 Plate Appearances this season. This is not an easy undertaking, because he broke through this brand in his career, namely 2017 (601 PA). The deal also includes performance bonuses that could earn him an extra million dollars a year.

At the beginning of the off-season, Morrison was still regarded as one of the more attractive first bases on the market, especially as he set career records in all the relevant offensive statistics: he hit 38 home runs, 85 RBI and one. 868 OPS (135 OPS+). But the slow market also caused him problems.

For the Twins, Morrison is expected to act as Designated Hitter, since superstar Joe Mauer is on base one. In the pre-season, Kenny’s Vargas and Robbie Grossman played this role for Minnesota – with clear success.
