Baseball: Drug tests: College coach fired for not recruiting in Colorado

The University of Texas Wesleyan has dismissed its baseball head coach after he told a high school player that he would not seek potential recruits from Colorado because they did not have a drug test.

The dismissal came shortly after college announced an official investigation of the incident.

Mike Jeffcoat had emailed an email to a high school Colorado player who had asked for a recruiting interview:”Unfortunately, we are not recruiting players from the state of Colorado. In the past, players from there have had trouble passing our drug tests. We have therefore decided not to take any more risks with student athletes from your state.”

To round off the news Jeffcoat added:”You can thank your liberal politicians for that. Good luck wherever you choose to play.”

Jeffcoat has been with Texas Wesleyan since 2002 and previously played pitcher at the MLB from 1983 to 1994. He was active for the Texas Rangers, Cleveland Indians, San Francisco Giants and Florida Marlins and achieved a record of 25-26 with a 4.37 ERA of 500 innings.
