MLB: Philadelphia Phillies engage ex-cubs pitcher Jake Arrieta

Jake Arrieta has found a new team, and according to media reports, the right-hander has reached a high-end three-year deal with Philadelphia Phillies. Lastly, Arrieta plays for the Chicago Cubs.

As MLB. com reports, only a medical check is still pending to complete the contract, which has a total volume of $75 million. Arrieta will earn $30 million in 2018, $25 million in 2019 and $20 million in 2020. However, Arrieta may opt out after the 2019 season and become a Free Agent again.

The Phillies can also cancel this opt-out clause by extending the deal by an option for two years. In that case, Arrietas’ annual salary would start at $20 million from 2021, but could increase to up to $30 million annually based on starts and CyYoung votes. In this case, the total volume could increase to a maximum of 135 million dollars over five years.

The 32-year-old won the Cy Young Award of the National League with the Chicago Cubs in 2015 and was 22-6 with a 1.77 ERA that year. In addition, he made at least 30 starts in each of the last two seasons and was one of the better starters in the league.

“We’re always trying to improve our team, but we have to do it in a way that makes sense now and next year,”team owner John Middleton told MLB. com in February,”We don’t want to sacrifice anything important in the future if we make a short-term move. Whether that’s a trade or a free agent commitment, if we find a deal that’s right for us, we’ll do it. We’ll pull the trigger. Money is not an obstacle.”

The average salary of $25 million is the highest for a player who has signed a contract since the end of last season. Meanwhile, Carlos Santana, who is now also playing in Philadelphia, has the fifth highest average salary in this period.
