MLB: Tulowitzki missing Toronto Blue Jays to start the season

The Toronto Blue Jays will have to give up Troy Tulowitzki at the start of the season. The Shortstop continues to struggle with a bone spur in his right heel.

Manager John Gibbons announced the bad news on Tuesday. Tulowitzki is currently training on the field, but can’t yet run at full speed.

“I think you can write off Tulo right now,”Gibbons told reporters.”He’s not ready to play in a game. It wouldn’t be fair to him either, because he has to come back in, do some at-bats and really try out how he feels. We need to make sure he’s really ready when he comes back.”

Gibbons then gave further information about Tulowitzki’s exact fitness level:”I saw how he trains and swings the racket. Of course it was all just batting practice, but I think he looks great at the moment. Now it’s all about getting it running. It’s the only thing hindering him right now. We’ll see how that develops.”

Tulowitzki has always been plagued by injuries. In his career, which began with the Colorado Rockies in 2006, he has never been able to play more than 155 games (2007). In 2017, due to injury, he only made 66 appearances.

The Blue Jays will start their season on 29. March in a home run against the New York Yankees at Rogers Centre.
