In the Golden State Warriors’ 106:94 (BOXSCORE) win against the Atlanta Hawks, Stephen Curry makes his comeback after a long injury break. Although the Point Guard leads the battered dubs to success with a strong performance, he injures himself again in the third quarter.
After Stephen Curry had to suspend the last six games with right ankle problems, the Warriors’ point guard made a comeback on the floor. In the end, like all Dubs fans, he leaves the game with mixed feelings.
Without the injured Kevin Durant, Draymond Green and Klay Thompson, the hosts had some problems with the guests from Atlanta in the early stages. Only 9 of the first 35 field attempts found their way through the cage, also Curry presented himself somewhat rusty and started 1 of 6 from the field. Dennis Schröder and the Hawks took advantage of this to take a 33:20 lead and finally take a 51:43 lead at half-time.
However, after 62 seconds in the third quarter Curry broke his shooting curse: The first of three triples that evening went through the Reuse – the starting shot for the Warriors to catch up. Golden State took control of the game with a strong third quarter (36:23), after a four-point game Curry increased his score to 29 points three minutes before the end of the third section (10/18 FG, 7 rebounds). But then the match for the two-time MVP was over again.
After an unfortunate collision with Center JaVale McGee, Curry went straight to the bench with his face distorted in pain, and a little later he limped towards the cabin. Initial suspicions that he had injured his ankle again were not confirmed. In return, the Warriors announced after the game that Curry had pulled a strain on the inner ligament in his left knee. On Saturday, an MRI examination will further clarify the extent of the injury.
Should Curry be out of action for any length of time, that would be extremely bitter for the Warriors, who would have to do without four All-Stars in the team. After all: Even without Curry Golden State could put the victory against the Hawks in dry cloths – although it got tight again towards the end of the game. Schröder, who scored 16 points and 7 assists, put two free throws on the ring four minutes before the end at 90:86 for the Dubs.
The hosts punished that immediately. Thanks to Nick Young (24 points) and Andre Iguodala (5 points, 6 assists) the Warriors immediately broke away again and finally brought the lead over time. Backup Point Guard Quinn Cook also played a strong game with 13 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists.
In addition to Schröder, Taurean Prince (20 points, 4/8 trio) or Tyler Dorsey (13 ) convinced the Hawks. The eighth defeat in the last nine games did not change anything for Atlanta.
