NFL: Giants boss about Beckham: “Nobody is untouchable”

Odell Beckham of the New York Giants has recently made unpleasant headlines off the pitch. Team owner John Mara now also had to face them – and he was surprised with clear statements in the direction of his star receiver.

A few days ago, a video was circulating on the net. It shows the Wide Receiver in a hotel bed next to a woman, a pizza, a cigar and a white powder – possibly drugs. The rumors that Giants reported that they did not want to comment on the video skyrocketed.

Mara then had other plans on Sunday – of necessity: On the fringes of the team owner meeting he was asked 18 proud questions about his star receiver. And Mara didn’t hold back. Although he “does not know exactly what can be seen in the video. But I’ve said it before: I’m tired of answering questions about Odell’s behavior. I think he knows what we expect from him, and now it’s up to him.”

The video is out of time for Beckham, OBJ is entering its final year of contract and may have been hoping for an early extension of the contract. He shouldn’t be expecting that now.

“We won’t offer him to other teams,” Mara continued, “but when you see we’ve had a 3-13 season and see how badly we’ve played, I have to say no one is untouchable.”

Beckham missed most of last season – twelve games in total – due to an ankle injury. This leaves the interpretation that Mara primarily packaged this statement in such a way as to draw his receiver’s attention to the fact that he no longer has too much room for manoeuvre.

In addition, the Giants owner made it clear: “Contracts are settled when the time is right. We have to see what happens,” Beckham said, “one way” of playing off his contract.

When asked if Beckham’s chance of a long-term contract was compromised by the incident, Mara replied: “I think that’s something to consider. Yes.”
