MLB: Encarnacion causes ankle ligament injury

Edwin Encarnacion suffered a ligament injury from the Cleveland Indians’ second game against the New York Yankees in the American League Division Series. However, he should be able to play again in this postseason.

Encarnacion had got stuck in the mud on the second base during the Base Running and was very bent.He then had to be taken off the field and carried a rail and was on crutches. He himself merely stated that there was no fracture and that he will now look at how the joint develops from day to day.

Manager Terry Francona explained on Saturday at a press conference that Encarnacion would not start on Sunday,”but it is not impossible that he could play,”added Francona.Instead of Encarnacion, Michael Brantley will be giving the Designated Hitter after missing out on the entire season last year, including the playoffs.”It’s very important for him to get an opportunity to actively participate in what we do,”said Francona about the outfielder.

Meanwhile, the Indians will not leave the squad, as Francona affirmed:”We will wait and allow him to continue his treatment. But if he’s already so close to being available again, that’s a good sign. So, of course, we’re not going to do anything about it.”

Encarnacion has beaten 38 home runs this year and collected 107 RBI.It’s his first season in Cleveland, where he signed a $60 million three-year contract.Prior to that, he played for Toronto Blue Jays for seven years.
