MLB: Dodgers beat Washington Nationals to catch up

The Los Angeles Dodgers (10-10) defeated the Washington Nationals (10-12) 4:3 on Sunday evening after a strong recovery. The difference was ultimately made by the more stable bullions of the hosts.

In the middle of the third inning the Nationals were already leading 3-0, but then the Dodgers played. At first Yasmani Grandral made the connection by 2-Run-Double, which meant Pitcher Jeremy Hellicksons (5 1/3 IP, 3 H, 3 ER) was finished. He was replaced by Reliever Sammy Solis, who promptly handed over Cody Bellinger’s RBI double as compensation.

Solis then distributed another walk and was finally replaced by Trevor Gott, who finished the inning. In the seventh, the Dodgers overcame him as well: Corey Seager took the 4-3 lead via Sacrifice Fly and thus the decision in the game.

“We had a lot of energy tonight,” said Dodgers skipper Dave Roberts after his team caught up. “We lay back, we didn’t stop fighting, and then we started rolling. There’s been evidence that this team is capable of doing this if we do it right. I hope we’ll show more of them.”

Dodgers-Outfielder Chris Taylor also noticed an increase in his team’s performance: “We are in a good position right now. In the last few games we have brought better at-bats together. We just play better baseball. Even today, when our clubs were slow at first – Jeremy Hellickson also had his good stuff. “We hung each other and caught him when he got tired.”

After left-hander Alex Wood only made three runs (2 ER) for Los Angeles in six innings, four relievers after him did not allow much more. In the end it was Kenley Jansen who played the number a bit shaky (2h) and brought in his third save of the season.
