The New York Yankees (13-9) have expanded their winning streak to four games. In the 8-3 win over the Minnesota Twins (8-10), the Bronx Bombers won four home runs, with shortstop Didi Gregorius setting a new record.
After the Twins took a 1-0 lead in the first inning through an RBI double by Eduardo Escobar, followed by an error by Right Fielder Aaron Judge – one of four Yankee errors in the game – New York turned up the heat. In the second inning, Gary Sanchez equalized the score with a home run, after which the Yankees scored runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings before taking the game out of reach with three in the seventh.
Gregorius was 3-4 (3 RBI) and hit his eighth home run of the season. This makes him the first shortstop ever with eight home runs and 27 RBI in the first 22 games of a team. Sanchez (2-4, 3 RBI) hit another home run, while Judge (3-5, 2 R) screwed his home run account to seven for the season.
Meanwhile, on the mound CC Sabathia convinced, who did not allow anything except the Unearned Run in the first inning. In six innings he gave two hits and a walk and took his first victory of the year (1-0).
Sabathia was asked after the game what his younger self would think of his current performance: “He would certainly laugh. I never thought I’d really pitch anytime. It just feels different. It’s a lot of fun, though. I was used to getting the ball and just throwing it. But it’s good to have a plan now and carry it out.”
In the Twins, Max Kepler hit the left-handed player in position 2 in surprise and was 1-4 with a run. Escobar convinced with three hits and a walk, while the hit streak of Second Baseman Brian Dozier came to an end after 24 games.
