MLB: Pirates – Tigers: 28th match change in the 2018 season

The game of the Pittsburgh Pirates against the Detroit Tigers was cancelled on Tuesday due to heavy rain. This marks the 28th match relocation this season, a new record for the MLB.

Since the Commissioner’s office began documenting transfers in 1986, there have never been more weather-related game transfers in April than this year. Also on Tuesday the match between Baltimore Orioles and Tampa Bay Rays was cancelled.

Detroit and Pittsburgh will now play a doubleheader on Wednesday, which will start at 22.05 (CEST) in PNC Park. This is already the second double header for both teams this year, after the season’s opening series suffered from two cancellations at the end of March, but at that time due to winter temperatures and snow.

On Wednesday, Jameson Taillon for the Pirates and Jordan Zimmermann for the Tigers will be the starters in game 1, Chad Kuhl and Matthew Boyd were announced for game 2.

The Pirates have lost six of their last seven games, while the Tigers have won five times in a row.
