The off-season saga surrounding Tom Brady may be finally put on record. The quarterback of the New England Patriots confirmed once again that he wants to play in the coming season.
“I have personal goals. I want to keep playing,” Brady confirmed in conversation with host Jim Gray, adding: “I’ve been saying for a while that I want to play until my 40s. This is a great challenge for me. “In my eyes, I’ve been challenged my whole life and I think I can do it.”
Around Brady, after all the acting MVP, the rumour mill was boiled up again in the middle of April. ESPN insider Adam Schefter had reported that Brady had not yet confirmed internally that he really wanted to contest the 2018 season. Reports of a possible premature career end on the one hand and demands for more money on the other were circulating.
NBC Boston reporter Tom Curran had also caused a stir a few days earlier when he reported that Brady was leading an “open revolt” against head coach Bill Belichick.
These rumors, which were fuelled by Brady’s absence from the off-season workouts, can now be finally put to one side. However, Brady gave further insights and explained his decision to stay away from the workouts: “Part of this off season for me is to prepare myself for what awaits me on my next trip.
This concerns “my next goal with my fellow players. But it’s also about realizing that many people in my life are being neglected – especially my wife and children. Football is present for me all year round. A lot of thoughts, a lot of energy and a lot of emotions flow into it. But my children are 10, 8 and 5 years old and are not getting any younger. That’s why I have to make time for her, too.”
He has done this over the past two or three months and I try to recharge my batteries as best I can. So that when I come back I’m a better player and a better player in my eyes because I feel younger again.”
