MLB: New York Mets worry about elbows of Jacob deGrom

In the 7-0 crash of the New York Mets (17-11) against the Atlanta Braves (18-11), it was not only the diamond chain of Yoenis Cespedes that worried the “Amazin’s”. Also the elbow of Pitching Ace Jacob deGrom is in focus, after he had to be replaced early.

Jacob deGrom started strong and pitched three shutout innings before kicking the record himself in the lower half of the third inning and taking a strikeout. He probably overstretched his right elbow and went back into the dugout in pain. He then pitched a clean fourth inning before he finally had to leave with pain in his biceps.

After the game deGrom was sent to the MRI. The results of these are expected by the Mets on Thursday. “We don’t really know what’s wrong with him,” manager Mickey Callaway admitted to reporters. “We won’t have any information until Thursday.” But he conceded: “I’m sure I won’t sleep very well.”

Callaway had never experienced an overstretched elbow with a pitcher during his time as pitching coach of the Cleveland Indians. “I’ve always been in the American League. So I prefer the pitcher not to hit.”
