NBA: Media: Clippers bind Doc Rivers for the long term

After rumours at the end of the season that Doc Rivers and the Los Angeles Clippers could go their separate ways in the future, things now seem to be quite different. According to media reports, Rivers is to receive an extension of his contract as head coach of the Clippers.

As Bill Plaschke of the LA Times writes, all signs point to further cooperation between the Clippers and their head coach Doc Rivers. According to this, Rivers and Clippers owner Steve Ballmer have agreed to extend the contract for several years.

After Chris Paul left the team last summer and Blake Griffin was traded to Detroit during the season, Rivers is now to lead the rebuild as one of the franchise faces.

Originally, the 56-year-old’s contract will run until summer 2019, but it appears that both sides have been able to agree on an early extension of the cooperation.

Rivers has been the Clippers’ head coach for five years. In his first four seasons with the team from the City of Angels he reached the playoffs, but in the 2017/18 season LAC missed the post-season with 42 wins to 40 defeats.
