MLB: Mets traden Dark Knight for Catcher to Reds

Matt Harvey found a new team. The New York Mets agreed with the Cincinnati Reds on a trade to send the pitcher to Ohio. In return, the “Amazin’s” solve their personnel shortage in the catcher position.

After the Mets had designated for assignment” Harvey, known as “Dark Knight” in the previous week, they had seven days to trade or release him. The Reds bit and now sent both Cash and Catcher Devin Mesoraco to the Big Apple.

For Mesoraco, the “journey” to his new team was a short one for the time being, because the Mets are currently guests at the Reds, so that he only had to change the cabin. “It’s a little surreal. It’s a whirlwind. Quite a lot happened in just 15 minutes,” Mesoraco commented on his transfer.

Mesoraco promptly appeared as Pinch-Hitter in the game on Tuesday, but struck out in the ninth inning in his new club’s 2-7 crash – the seventh for New York in the last eight games.

The Mets made room in the squad by putting Third Baseman Todd Frazier on the 10-Day Disabled List after injuring his hamstring.

“We are happy to have an experienced man who can play a few times a week,” Mets Special Assistant J.P. Ricciardi told reporters. “We talked to Jay Bruce and Todd Frazier about him.” Both once played with Mesoraco at the Reds.

To complete the deal, the Reds pay the Mets an additional nearly $5.8 million to almost make up for the difference in the salaries of both players. Harvey’s making $5.625 million this year, Mesoraco $13 million again. Both will be at the end of the season free agents.
