Dennis Schröder seems to be toying with the idea of changing teams within the NBA. The German admitted this at a DBB press conference and talked about the current situation of the Hawks.
“I don’t know what the organization is planning,” Schröder said at the press conference in Braunschweig. “But I also have to think individually and see what’s best for me.”
Atlanta was the Point Guard’s last place at the Eastern Conference with a score of 24-58 – not enough for the ambitious international in the long run.
“I’m turning 25 in September and of course I want to win a title sometime. In my Prime – 25, 26, 27, 28, 29 – I want to play at the top. I can’t be last in the Eastern Conference. Therefore I will talk to the Atlanta Hawks”, Schröder explained.
For him personally it was “a good season”, but the man from Braunschweig is “worried” about the situation of the team. That’s why his agent is flying to Atlanta this week to sound out the situation on the ground. Schröder follows in the following week.
A possible change is no longer impossible for the German, although he would have to leave “his city”: “Of course Atlanta is my city. I was drafted there, I have many memories there, but as I said I have to see what is best for me individually.”
The 24-year-old has also thought about possible new teams: “I also have my friends in other teams, so Indiana wouldn’t be wrong, Milwaukee wouldn’t either. They’re going in the right direction with the organization.” Oladipo is also Schröder’s good friend at the Pacers. “A station wagon with him would be a good thing,” he added.
The Hawks had let some of their top performers go before the season and now also dismissed coach Mike Budenholtzer, under whom Schröder became a starter. He was taken over by Lloyd Pierce a few days ago. The contract with the Point Guard in Atlanta runs until 2020.
