NFL: Trade! Cardinals Get Browns Cornerback

The Arizona Cardinals are still looking for a cornerback, on Friday another candidate for one of the starter spots next to Patrick Peterson was brought to the desert: The Cardinals have agreed with the Cleveland Browns on a trade by Jamar Taylor.

The Browns will receive the Miami Dolphins’ second-round pick (54 overall) for Taylor in 2013 – a six-round draft pick in 2020.

The cornerback would have actually collected $4.5 million next season, as NFL network insider Ian Rapoport has learned, but Taylor agreed to restructure the contract as part of the trade to reduce the cap hit.

Taylor was traded from the Dolphins to the Browns during the 2016 drag, Cleveland then managed to use the cornerback better – primarily in the slot, where Taylor promptly completed 32 percent of his snaps for the Browns. A very good 2016 season was followed by a solid 2017 season in which he again played in the slot and outside.

In Arizona, he could also be eligible for both roles. Patrick Peterson is the only outside-place in the Cornerback Corps of the Cardinals. Brandon Williams, rookie Christian Campbell and the recently signed Bene Benwikere fight over the other spots – now together with Taylor.

After the release of Tyrann Mathieu, the slot-corner spot has also become a construction site. Benwikere is considered the favourite here, but Taylor could now compete with him.
