What’s LeBron James doing in his Free Agency? This question concerns the NBA world after the sweep of the Golden State Warriors over the Cleveland Cavaliers in the finals. The King himself is still undercover, but has numerous options.
Already the second question at the press conference after game 4 was about LeBron’s Free Agency. Of course, the King knew exactly that this topic would arise and answered this question seriously – as one is used to from him.
“I don’t know yet,” James explained calmly. “I will discuss this with my family. My boys are now significantly older than four years ago. “I now have a little girl who wasn’t even born then.”
LeBron has experience with the circus, which is the Free Agency. In 2010 and 2014 he already went through this process and had mixed experiences with it. There was a lot of criticism for The Decision, a half-hour TV show in which LeBron explained that he would bring his talents to South Beach and Miami Heat. In 2014 he announced his return in a letter he wrote together with Lee Jenkins from Sport’s Illustrated.
Already, but especially from July 1st all eyes will be on LeBron again. He is aware that he is the decisive domino of summer. Only when he decides, the big deals of the other free agents will probably be completed. James’ Free Agency can finally completely change the balance of power in the NBA.
So it comes as no surprise that various players are also competing for the king. Joel Embiid of the Philadelphia 76ers has been doing this for months and the Cameroonian was one of the first to lure James to the city of fraternal love after game 4 via Twitter.
The Sixers with their young team around Embiid and Ben Simmons are undoubtedly a serious candidate, but the competition is fierce. What are James’ options this summer? We’re looking at the teams that might have the best chance of getting to LeBron and how they could make enough space under the cap.
It can be assumed here that LeBron is definitely aiming for a Max deal, as he has done in recent years. Assuming a cap of 101 million dollars, James could sign a three-year contract for a total of 111.4 million dollars with any team that is not the Cavs.
