MLB: Tanaka drops out with injuries on both legs

The New York Yankees have put Masahiro Tanaka on the Disabled List. The starting pitcher suffered injuries in both large hamstrings in the game of his New York Yankees at the New York Mets on Friday.

Tanaka hurt herself running on the bases. He scored a run after a Sacrifice Fly, but pulled muscles in both legs during the sprint.

When the Japanese will return has not yet been determined. While General Manager Brian Cashman spoke of a “month”, Manager Aaron Boone said: “It is very possible that he will be back before the All-Star Break”. The All-Star Game takes place on July 17th.

It is still unclear who will take Tanaka’s place in the meantime. Cashman merely stated: “We have an idea of what we will do”, but did not reveal what it would look like.

Meanwhile, Boone noted that Tanaka’s spot would not be a topic until Friday at the earliest. With a day off on Monday, the rotation will therefore continue normally until then, before Friday will probably see an internal solution.

It is possible that the Yankees could then promote top pitching prospect Justus Sheffield. The left-hander also last pitched on Friday and made two runs in six innings for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Sheffield, 22, started the season as Yankee number two prospect behind Gleyber Torres, who already manned the second base of the Bronx Bombers.
