NFL: Big Ben: “Got to give up money for others”

Ben Roethlisberger says in times of record contracts for quarterbacks that it makes sense to think about the well-being of the team. The playcaller of the Pittsburgh Steelers is not interested in a record mark on the employment contract.

“It’s important to understand that you are the quarterback of a team,” said Big Ben in an interview on ESPN. “Sometimes you just have to take it easy and give up money for others.”

Roethlisberger has a two-year contract with the Steelers. However, he is not interested in a new record contract, which is currently often handed out for other quarterbacks. “I’m more interested in record-breaking super bowl wins. That’s more important to me.”

The Steelers Playcaller is currently twelfth in terms of annual salary, which is paid to quarterbacks. His annual salary of $21.85 million is well behind that of top-ranked Matt Ryan ($30 million, Atlanta Falcons) and Kirk Cousins ($28 million).

In addition to Roethlisberger, Aaron Rodgers will also become a Free Agent after the 2019 season. “I still have two years left on my contract. I’m not just gonna sit here and worry about my contract. That’s not my job, that’s my agent’s and the franchise’s. I think there are other and maybe more important people who should make a deal right now.”

By one of these people, Big Ben might mean Running Back Leveon Bell – the backfield superstar is currently under franchise day – but he mentioned offensive line players he would like to see in front of him on the field.

“In two years, it will also be about[Maurkice] Pouncey,[Marcus] Gilbert and other important players. I hope they can be held. Because if they hadn’t been there, neither would I. You’re just so good.”
