MLB: Boston gets reinforcements from Florida

The Boston Red Sox and the Tampa Bay Rays have agreed on a trade for starting pitcher Nathan Eovaldi. In exchange, a prospect goes to Florida.

“He’s one of our kind. We thought it was appropriate to act quickly instead of waiting in uncertainty,” Dave Dombrowski, President of Baseball Operations for Red Sox, told reporters.

For Eovaldi the Rays left-handers get Jalen Beeks, who is number 15 in the Red Sox farm system according to MLB Pipeline.

Eovaldi is pitching in the MLB for the first time since 2016, after having undergone Tommy John surgery and missed the entire pre-season. Eovaldi is in the second year of an annual contract and becomes a free agent at the end of the season.

In Boston he will supplement a rotation in which two players Steven Wright and Eduardo Rodriguez are on the Disabled List, while Drew Pomeranz has just been activated by the DL and does not seem to be quite fit.

Who will have to vacate his place in the Red Sox squad of 25 is still unclear.
