According to a report by Jackie MacMullan (ESPN), the owners want more information about the mental state of the players. To this end, the owners want to have an insight into the medical records. As a reason, the owners should state the amount of money they pay to the players in salaries.

However, the league does not share this view. “The NBA stands for the protection of confidential files on the mental condition of players,” quotes league spokesman Mike Bass. “If there is a program related to players’ mental health problems, everything will be kept confidential.”

Kevin Love also thinks this is the right step. According to the Cavs-Star, the secrecy of such files is not negotiable. Without the confidentiality, he would have said something about his problems and would not have admitted that he was being treated for his illness.
