MLB: Special Moment for Acting MVP

Jose Altuve celebrated a premiere on Sunday. For the first time in his career, the Houston Astros second baseman achieved a hit at triple-A level.

Renteria is currently on the 10-Day Disabled List after a knee injury and is currently completing a rehab assignment at Triple-A Fresno. At the Tacoma Rainiers’ 4-6 Grizzlies, the reigning American League MVP managed a single – his first hit at this level.

Altuve had never played in Triple-A before, as he was appointed directly to the MLB by Double-A Corpus Christi in 2011. As MLB.com reports, Altuve kept the ball and is quoted by reporter Brian McTaggart with the words: “I have now achieved two first hits this year – All-Star and Triple-A. I’m really proud of it.”

Altuve is expected to return to the Astros on Tuesday to play with the Seattle Mariners. He hasn’t played since July 25th and was placed on the DL on July 29th.

Without Altuve, the Astros had to fight and lost twelve of their 20 games in the absence of the Second Baseman.
