Teams have until 10 pm to announce their final 53-man roster for the coming season. 1,184 players will be dismissed accordingly. SPOX provides an overview of the most important cuts and trades.
As expected, Kony Ealy has been released by the Dallas Cowboys. This is reported by ESPN. The Cowboys’ defensive end has fallen victim to Randy Gregory’s return. In April, the cowboys signed Ealy for a year.
Still in Super Bowl 50 Ealy set a record in which he collected 3 bags for the Carolina Panthers and had a pick, but could not maintain his level. If Ealy had made the squad, he would have seen $200,000 in guarantees.
In the preseason Hackenberg has to pack his bags again. The former second-round pick is still unable to gain a foothold in NFL territory.
Hackenberg played in the last Preseason game on Thursday and proved to be highly ineffective. In seven drives he only managed seven of his 16 attempts to pass, threw two picks and was bagged twice.
Although the Eagles are facing an uncertain quarterback situation before the start of the season, they have already given up hope in Hackenberg after three weeks. Hackenberg has not yet seen a regular season snap.
A great career that may end up in the Hall of Fame will not continue in Houston. The Texans cut seven-time pro bowl punter Shane Lechler.
Lechler lost the preseason duel with the impotent rookie Trevor Daniel. Team-mate J.J. Watt tweeted that Lechler was “the best punter of all time”.
On Friday, the New Orleans Saints separated from some prominent names. Wide Receiver Michael Floyd and Brandon Tate have to leave after they joined the team in this offseason.
The wide receiver corps in New Orleans is already busy, with Michael Thomas, Ted Ginn Jr., Cameron Meredith, Tre’Quan Smith, Austin Carr and Tommylee Lewis securing their squad positions. Floyd will now be looking for his fifth team in two years. Tate could be a kick returner for some teams.
Shane Vereen injured himself at the last Preseason match on Thursday and was now removed from the squad. Given the similar playing style to Alvin Kamara, a roster spot would have been unlikely anyway.
