MLB: Cleveland brings ex-MVP to the deadline

The Cleveland Indians have once again secured prestigious reinforcements. They agreed on a trade with the Toronto Blue Jays for Third Baseman Josh Donaldson. However, it is still unclear when exactly the former MVP will be able to intervene.

Donaldson had previously passed the Trade Waiver Wire and could be traded to any team. What the Indians have to hand in for Donaldson has not yet been determined. It will be a player who is still named. Who this will be must be clarified by 30 January 2019.

How good the player sent to Canada is depends on the Third Baseman’s health. Donaldson has been on the Disabled List of calf problems since May and is still not fit again. However, it was activated by the 60-Day Disabled List on Saturday.

Donaldson was the MVP of the American League in 2015 and will be free agent at the end of the season. Until then, he is entitled to a salary of $4 million, of which Toronto will pay $2.7 million.

Since Donaldson was acquired in August, he is eligible to play for the Indians during the post-season.
