Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson have been bitter competitors for many years. However, in recent years a deep friendship has developed from numerous duels. At the Players Championship in May, Mickelson had the idea of a show match. “Why don’t we leave the whole tournament thing behind and play one-on-one for a high stakes?”
No sooner said than done. Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson compete for prize money of around nine million US dollars – a more than considerable sum.
At the show match between Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson, both actors will wear microphones and thus create added value for the viewers on the TV screen. Never before has there been anything comparable in elitist golf. “That allows us to be a little more authentic, if you like,” Mickelson explains. “We think there will be some interest, but I’ll try to present it in a way you don’t see in normal broadcasts.”
Mickelson continues: “With only two guys we should have a completely different experience with the fans. Because there will be less crowds, which will not necessarily have barriers, they can walk on the fairway and close to the greens. The idea behind it is not only to have this great match, but also an interactive experience so that fans can see something they have never seen before in a golf broadcast”.
