The Detroit Tigers TV commentator team, Mario Impemba and Rod Allen, are said to have had a fight after a game last week. They haven’t been on air since Wednesday.
Viewers of Fox Sports Detroit, the right-holder of the Tigers’ games, were amazed on Wednesday: Matt Shepard and Kirk Gibson and not Impemba and Allen, the regular commentators for the team, commented on the Tigers’ game at the Chicago White Sox. However, there was no justification.
However, this provided a report from The Athletic. Accordingly, the long-time commentator duo had a “physical confrontation” after the game on Tuesday. Why exactly this happened is unclear, although various other media speculated about a dispute over a chair in the commentator’s booth.
Meanwhile, The Athletic speaks of longer smouldering animosities of the two, which originated from their very different personalities. The replacement crew around Shepard and Gibson is said to have flown in shortly before the close of the gate, while Impemba and Allen were sent back to Detroit on different flights – for safety reasons.
The General Manager of Fox Sports Detroit, Greg Hammaren, did not deny the rumours to The Ahtletic, but said: “My only comment is that we are dealing with an internal matter and will not make any further statements at this time.
The commentators’ agents as well as the two statements on the subject that the protagonists themselves refused to make or could not be reached at all in the case of the protagonists. A spokesman for the team, in turn, referred to the regional sports channel.
