NBA: NBA adopts three new rule changes

At a meeting of the Board of Governors, the 30 team owners unanimously approved three new rules for the coming NBA season. One rule change concerns the shot clock.

As the NBA announced in an official press release, the litter will only be reset to 14 seconds after an offensive rebound at the beginning of the 2018/19 season, instead of 24 seconds before.

This also applies if the defending team commits a loose ball foul immediately after a miss or if the attacking team is awarded a spalding after the ball has been deflected out after a miss that touched the ring.

The new regulation has been standard in the FIBA world for several years, and has also been applied in the G-League since 2016/17. This rule change was also tested in the Summer League 2018, before it is now also being introduced in the NBA.

The Board of Governors also decided to simplify the clear-path foul rule. In the future, the attacking team will get two free throws and the possession of the ball if the team is deprived of a clear scoring opportunity in the fast break by a foul. The NBA hopes that this will make the decision easier for the referees.

From next season, the definition of the so-called “hostile act” will also be extended, so that disputes between players or coaches can now also be punished with referees and even fans. In future, the impartial may also use Instant Replay as an aid.
