NFL: Wembley purchase: Jaguars withdraw offer

Shad Khan, the owner of the Jacksonville Jaguars, has withdrawn the offer to buy Wembley Stadium in London. This was announced by the English Football Association FA on Wednesday.

“Earlier this year, we received an official offer from Mr. Khan. It was a very credible offer and was therefore seriously considered”, explained association leader Martin Glenn: “Today he has told us that he will withdraw the offer. We respect his decision.”

However, Khan had not yet given up the purchase of the stadium. “I cannot rule out that we will try again at a later date,” Khan is quoted by Harris. According to the FA, Khan is no longer convinced that the purchase would contribute to improving the Community facilities.

Khan wants to strengthen the position of the Jacksonville Jaguars on the European market by purchasing the stadium, which was built in 2007. According to a Daily Mail report, he is willing to put aside 500 million euros for Wembley.

“The games of the Jaguars in London are indispensable for the financial stability of the Jaguars in Jacksonville because Jacksonville is one of the smallest markets in the NFL. The stronger the Jaguars in London, the more promising is the future of the Jaguars in Jacksonville,” Khan said in April 2018.
